Upcoming Events!

Leave No Trace Training

*Camp Loud Thunder 
*Participants must be 14 or older
*Friday, April 6th through Saturday, April 7th.  
*Campsite set up begins at 4pm Friday.  Training finishes up Saturday at 8:30pm.

*The LNT training qualifies for unit leadership in our troop and is open to anyone, but BSA members have priority.
*Cost is $40 and includes a Friday night snack, all training materials, and all meals on Saturday.

Counselor In Training

*Minimum age requirement to be a Counselor in Training is 14 years of age by June 1
*Applicants must be registered members of the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout or Venturer.
*Must have been active in their program for at least one year.
*The principle of the Scout Oath and Law must be practiced as a way of life.
*Counselors in Training set an example of excellence in Scouting which includes the proper wearing of the uniform.
*Counselors in Training report on time to all of their assignments and remain until the session ends.
*Counselors in Training are required to reside in housing provided by the Illowa Council.
*The Counselor in Training program is a one-week program with a rotation through program areas. Similar to the full time Camp Staff, Counselors in Training will be asked to do a variety of tasks during their stay at camp. Counselors in Training who excel during their first week may be asked back to Camp Loud Thunder for a second week focused in the area(s) in which they have excelled.

Follow Up!

I made a few mistakes last post.

I need to clarify that NYLT is only for people referred by a Scoutmaster.

OA Spring fellowship is open to the Candidates and any other OA members, this is also an opportunity for Ordeal Members to get Brotherhood!

OA Eagle Plus Merit Badge is open to everyone! They do even offer one Eagle required merit badge, but I would check with Mr. DeWitt if you would like to do that. If you have any questions just ask me at the next meeting!

Upcoming Events!

YMCA Swim Class
* Ages:  11 or older  (NOTE:  The YMCA website says 15-18…?) SPACE IS LIMITED!
* Schedule:  7 weeks/ Thursdays 4:15-5:00 pm
* Fee:  $34 for YMCA members/$68 for non-members
* Must pass final swim test on last day to earn merit badge
* Location:  53rd Street, Moline (Cool Pool)
* Register at www.tworiversymca.org/registration (look at Boy Scout Merit Badge)
NOTE:  There is actually a second class being offered on the YMCA website.  April 21-June 2
(Must pass a BSA swim test to participate.  Those unable to pass swim test on the 1st day of class may transfer their registration fee to one of their traditional swim lessons.)

More Merit Badge Opportunities!

Monmouth University Merit Badge Clinic
March 10th in Monmouth, Illinois.  $15, includes lunch  You can NOT register online.  When you mail in your registration the scout will choose 3 they are interested in.  There may be prerequisites to be done before they arrive.
There are over 25 merit badges offered at this event.  Many scouts in Troop 109 are planning to attend.  If your scout needs a ride, let Wendie Oestmann know. (918)306-1933
Heritage Day Merit Badge Clinic
April 28th in Clinton, Iowa
This clinic offers scouts the opportunity to earn 3 badges for $15 and includes lunch.
American Heritage, Scouting Heritage, and Geneology.  With these merit badge classes there are prerequisites. (see Illowabsa.org for prerequisites)
Again, there are many scouts from Troop 109 attending this event.  The limit for the clinic is 40 scouts total so if you are interested you will need to sign up soon.  You can NOT register online!
